This morning the families of the victims of the MH17 disaster were briefed by the Joint Investigation Team on the initial findings of the criminal investigation into the downing of flight MH17. These findings concern the weapon used to down flight MH17, the location from which it was fired and the Buk missile system’s route of transport.

The Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE) 2016 will open on 8 June in Eindhoven. This year the conference, organised annually by the European Commission, will focus on setting up regional ecosystems to promote open innovation and close cooperation.
Adaptation Futures 2016 is the fourth PROVIA worldwide adaptation conference. It will be held in Rotterdam from 10 to 13 May 2016. The goal of the conference is to move climate change adaptation forward by promoting solutions across sectors, borders and communities. The Arctic will be one of the key themes at the conference. There will also be some important Norwegian speakers at the conference, including Aile Javo, President of the Saami Council.
On 6 april 2016 an advisory referendum was held in the Netherlands on the EU-association agreement with Ukraine. The preliminary outcome shows that the required threshold for a valid outcome of a turn-out of 30% or more was reached, with a clear majority of people who voted against.
Defence minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert believes the European Union needs to have a new Global Strategy by June. It must clearly describe how Europe is going to deal with the increasingly complex and connected world. The minister said this on Friday in Paris at the ‘Europe’s security and defence; what next?’ seminar, organised by the Dutch embassy in the context of the EU Presidency. ‘A new attitude towards the EU’s responsibility as a security provider is needed,’ said Ms Hennis. ‘We will have to show that the EU can be a credible, effective and efficient security actor in its immediate region and beyond. Europe has to grow up.’

Over 300 policymakers, film producers, media companies and film distributors from all over Europe are meeting up in Amsterdam on 3 and 4 March to discuss the future of media use in Europe. The conference is being held by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science under the auspices of the Dutch Presidency of the EU.
