Birth
Concerning birth legislation the following rules apply:
- In all cases children get the mother's nationality
- Are the parents married or has the father acknowledged the child, then the child will get the father's nationality as well
- Children of Dutch citizens that are born in Norway or Iceland, do not automatically get the Norwegian or Icelandic nationality, but will be Dutch citizens
Is your child born in Norway or Iceland, then it will have a birth certificate issued there. In order to use a non-Dutch document for the application of a Dutch travel document, you will need to get the document legalised. This means that it has to be provided with an apostille stamp from the Fylkesmann (in Norway) or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in Iceland).
